नेपालमा आर्थिक वर्ष २०७५/७६ मा २१ करोड ७८ लाख ७० हजार रुपैयाँबराबरको ७ लाख ७९ हजार ४६२ किलो ओखर आयात भएको थियो, जुन गत वर्षको तुलनामा ६ करोड ६४ लाख ९० हजार ४४ हजार ५७ किलोमा बढेको हो।

विभागको तथ्यांकले देखाएको छ कि यस अवधिमा ७२ करोड ४६ लाख ५६ हजार ५६ किलो सुकुमेल आयात भएको थियो, जुन २०७९/८० मा १ अर्ब ३९ करोड ८० लाख ५४ हजार १० लाख ७४ हजार ६९६ किलोमा बढेको हो।

Young unemployed individuals act as carriers for local smugglers and deliver rice to warehouses set up by Nepali traders. Despite efforts to curb smuggling, more than 111.2 tonnes of rice have been seized in the last four months. The ban on rice exports by the Indian government has caused rice prices in Nepal to surge, creating a profitable opportunity for smugglers. The increase in smuggling has also led to higher rice prices in the local market.

Nepal's coming days, could be at risk of experiencing elevated prices for rice and sugar if measures to ensure a steady supply are not effectively implemented.

The Indian government has allowed sugar exports to Nepal and Bhutan. The quantity of sugar allowed for export is 25,000 Metric Tons per country. The permission to export has been granted to the National Cooperative Exports Ltd (NCEL).
